What is Ureka?

Ureka is the future of science. It is a mobile platform for scientists to share their results in real-time, bypassing the long processes scientists often must undergo before their scientific results are shared. Ureka also serves as a hub for critique and collaboration at a global scale; we can greatly reduce the amount of time, energy, and funds spent on misguided science by increasing the number of people reviewing the research. With Ureka, science can evolve and excel exponentially -- the way it is meant to.

Who is it for?

Ureka is designed for both scientists and the general public. This extends from MDs who don’t have access to publications and need to learn about current findings in the medical industry, to graduate students who have to rifle through hundreds of papers per day just to determine which publication contains the most current, relevant, and robust research results. Ureka will keep both academics and science enthusiasts abreast of the current trends in science inside a collaborative, user-friendly mobile platform.

What are the key features?

Ureka combines all of the best features of Instagram, Twitter, Slack, Linked-In, AcademicJobs, and more. Key features and capabilities include: post an image and description of the results to relevant science channels; subscribe and follow scientific channels specific to your interests to see the latest results in that research area; all channels have a trending feed and a time-dependent feed, so you can see the most recent and/or the most active posts; measurable in-app metrics that track user impact and activity, which can be used in the future for hiring practices and in-app awards. Future versions will include job hunting tools, conference support, private sub-channels, and animated posts.

How much does it cost?

Ureka is FREE. We believe that science should be open to everyone, but the current publishing schema is a crime against humanity. Taxpayer funds are pumped into institutions to fund scientific progress. Scientists then give their work away for free (or sometimes even at a cost) to publishers, who in turn make a large profit by hiding those results behind paywalls that cost readers hundreds to thousands of dollars per paper. Ureka will remove the proverbial middleman and provide the same services (and more) at no cost to the user.
